#JSUGrad26: “If I could be remembered for one thing, I want it to be known that I didn't do this for the limelight. I did it for the legacy. 

My journey with the Sonic Boom of the South was a full-circle story rooted in the streets of Jackson. 

From the nights I spent as a child listening to the band’s distant echo across Medgar Evers, to seeing my uncles and father carry the torch of musicianship, JSU was always my destiny.

Because my father left the band early to pursue a professional music career, my five-year journey as a first-generation graduate was an opportunity to complete that legacy for him.

I became a student of the craft long before I stepped onto the field. From fourth grade through high school, I studied the films of legends like Byron Joseph, Nathaniel Kenner and James Wesby on YouTube. 

My goal was to embody every legend who came before me while adding my own chapter to the history books.

While I am incredibly proud of performing in the Super Bowl, the Rose Parade and the Michael biopic, my most cherished achievement was initiating the J5 25th Anniversary homecoming show. 

Bridging the gap between the icons I grew up idolizing and the current squad was the ultimate fulfillment of my mission.

I feel I have successfully redefined what it means to lead this program, moving beyond social media presence to focus on true leadership.

As I prepare to walk across the stage, I do so without a single ‘could have’ or ‘should have.’ I gave everything to the Sonic Boom, and in return, it gave me a future.

I am ready to lead the next generation of musicians, carrying the pride of Jackson State with me for the rest of my life. I came, I saw, and I did exactly what I said I would do.”
