“Give Me the Ball!” is a masterful command of raw non-fiction narrative without the Hollywood dilution via biopic. Women’s tennis legend Billie Jean King narrates her own story all the way from the beginning in a curated mix of archival footage and present-day interviews. 

Directed by Liz Garbus and Elizabeth Wolff, the documentary first premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January. Coming out of Sundance, the film is set to appear in ESPN’s ongoing 30 for 30 sports documentary series. 

King redefined the tennis world as we know it, most notably at the peak of her career in the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” against 55-year-old Bobby Riggs. The “Battle of the Sexes” ultimately went down as the most watched tennis game in history. “Give Me the Ball!” explores the woman behind the racquet in an effective navigation of King’s life as an activist in tandem with her record-shattering career.
