It’s never been more critical to ensure that mental health and substance use disorder support and services are available to all Californians. There are individuals dedicating their lives to this work and supporting people in their communities every day. But they often go unrecognized.

That’s why each May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, we announce our Steinberg Institute Champions—unsung heroes whose work shows what meaningful, on-the-ground impact looks like.

Every Tuesday at 10am over the next four weeks, we will unveil one of our 2026 Steinberg Institute Champions.
