3 reasons interns don’t get return offers (that have nothing to do with the work):

1. Attitude
No matter how good the work is, if you visibly resent the long hours or the extra mile, people pick up on it fast. You don’t need to love it. You just can’t make it everyone else’s problem. Half the job is being someone people want to staff.

2. Repeating the same mistake
Everyone messes up in the first few weeks. No one cares. What gets remembered is whether you fixed it. Missing the same comment in two different turns of a deck is the fastest way to get quietly written off.

3. Not asking questions
Sitting on something for three hours because you don’t want to look dumb is the move that actually makes you look dumb. Asking early is a signal of judgment. Asking late is a signal of ego.

The work matters, but by week 6 it is table stakes. Return offers come down to whether people trust you and want to work with you every day.
