80 years ago, on April 30, 1946, the University of Newark merged with Rutgers University to become Rutgers University–Newark — expanding access to higher education in New Jersey’s largest city... #BrickCity 🧱 

Today, Rutgers–Newark is ranked #36 among public universities nationwide and, for two consecutive years, #5 in the U.S. and #1 in New Jersey for Social Mobility by U.S. News & World Report — which measures students’ success in moving up the economic and professional ladder.

“As Rutgers University–Newark marks 80 years as part of Rutgers, we’re honoring a legacy built on opening doors and staying deeply connected to the city,” said Chancellor Tonya Smith-Jackson. “That history shapes how we move forward.
