The physical, mental, and emotional toll this game takes on each person is different. Over the first 22 days of this game, my body slowly withered away. The strength I worked so hard to build was gone, the athleticism and intelligence I depend on in my real life was failing me over and over in challenges. My brain was getting stuck in a cycle that I was a failure and no one would respect me when I returned to the normal world. This grueling, intense game impacts each contestant deeply in so many ways that are not captured in the 90 minutes the audience sees each Wednesday. 

But there are also so many relationships, bonds, and beautiful moments between competitors that will never be shown on TV either. On this island, you have nobody but the community you build, and this moment is a testament to the strength and support of our unique Survivor 48 community. Throughout the season, it has been very clear my tightest allies and closest friends have been Joe and Kyle. However, in this moment when I am extremely down, it is Kamilla and Mitch who are here to remind me who I am. The audience only gets to see relationships that are central to the plot, but there are so many connections that are central to our personal experiences that you will never know about. What is so special about our Survivor 48 is what I said in this clip: “We’ve picked our community...not just based on what’s best for me in this game, but what’s going to make me want to be here?” These exceptional individuals make me want to be here, and we have all become better people because of each other.

Viewers forget that we are not just pawns in this complex game, but we are living people with our own struggles, emotions, experiences, and relationships. As we enter into the final episode of Survivor 48 please remember to be kind and considerate of all that we go through, seen and unseen on TV, to bring you the amazing show Survivor.
