Meet Emma Brown - since 2022, there's been a dog by her side. As a member of step.pitt, a volunteer club at pittofficial dedicated to raising puppies for Canine Companions, she's raised four puppies - each of whom is now making an incredible impact in their own way. 🐕‍🦺

"Each puppy I've raised marks a remarkable time in my life. Neon was my sweet, sensitive companion in a time when I was navigating living alone for the first time in an apartment. 

Opal was my energetic pocket-full-of-sunshine who I needed so badly when both school and my extracurriculars became challenging.

Eik was my calming presence that grounds me in a time of uncertainty during graduation. 

Namaste, currently, is the pup who will follow me into the beginning of a new journey in law school at bostoncollege, where I hope to get people engaged!

Although the dogs are with me for a relatively short period of time, these puppies are the most stable part of my life. 

Puppy raising is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Not only have I gained the opportunity to help further individuals independence, but I've gained a sense of purpose in life. 

It's because of my participation in Canine Companions that I've decided to attend law school to become a disability rights and animal advocacy rights lawyer. In addition to this sense of purpose, I've found a forever-community of people whom I consider family. 🫶 

Everyone I encounter in the Canine Companions community has been nothing but supportive and kind. I've been lucky to have such positive encounters with trainers, kennel staff, breeder caretakers, puppy raisers and other graduates. I credit my success as a puppy raiser and my growth as a person to the village that surrounds me." 💛💙 

🚓 Neon graduated as a #facilitydog and works at the Petersburg Police Department in Virginia.

💪 Opal graduated as a #servicedog for a veteran client through our Veterans Initiative.

🐕 Eik is now Emma's pet dog, since released from the program.

🐕‍🦺 Namaste is a #futureservicedog expected to enter professional training this November.
