As a Hearing Commissioner, I’m constantly reminded that behind every case is a person with a story. Listening to survivors and understanding the victim’s point of view isn’t just important—it’s essential to ensuring justice is meaningful, not just procedural.

I recently had the opportunity to attend SafeNest’s “Voices of Strength: Men as Allies” panel, and it left a lasting impression on me.

Hearing from the Henderson Police Chief about evolving training approaches, a man who courageously shared his personal journey of change, and a support group leader working on the front lines was incredibly powerful. Each perspective reinforced how complex—and human—these situations are.

Events like this challenge all of us to listen more closely, think more deeply, and continue striving for a system that recognizes both accountability and the lived experiences of those impacted. That’s the kind of judge I will be. 

Grateful for the work being done and the voices willing to be heard.
