Last night at the Henderson Police Department Citizen Academy, we toured the department’s gun range and got a firsthand look at what officers go through to safely and responsibly handle firearms.

We learned about gun safety protocols, the physical and mental demands of qualifying at the range, and the responsibility that comes with carrying a weapon. I even had the opportunity to shoot with simmunition under supervision — a powerful reminder of the serious nature of this profession.

This experience deepened my respect for what officers undergo and the weight of the decisions they face.
