At our recent Real World Panel, we were honored to hear the powerful, personal stories of Luis, Josh, Anthony, and Vanessa—each of whom entered foster care at different stages in life. Despite their unique journeys, they all shared a common thread: the steady, life-changing support of a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) through Voices for Children. Their stories were raw, emotional, and deeply inspiring — reminding us of the critical role CASAs play in helping youth navigate the foster care system and build brighter futures. 

💬 "Laura didn’t save my life by being extraordinary, but by being ordinary, she taught me that I could save my own." — Vanessa reflects on the consistency and care her CASA, Laura, provided for her.

💬 "I could finally succeed... because my CASA, Daniel, gave me the confidence," — Anthony, reflects on starting high school feeling loved and growing up back in his home with his great-grandmother. 

💬 "We pull up to this place, and I walk in — both of my sisters are sitting there. I was so overwhelmed with emotion, I didn’t even know what to feel. I wasn’t angry, I didn’t cry... I was just in awe. It was a pivotal moment in our relationship — when I realized: this guy is really here for me." — Josh reflects on the moment that changed everything with his CASA, Tim. 

💬"Art used to drive us around and play 'the Fart song.' My brother loved it. During that season of our lives,  we didn't really have a lot of laughter.  We were pegged with a lot of pain, a lot of trauma, and  Art just knew how to penetrate that in a way that spoke my language at the time.  Honestly, to this day, it's such a cherished moment between me, Art, and my brother. — Luis shares a joyful memory with his CASA, Art. 

The panel left everyone with a challenge to ensure that their stories are heard and acted upon. Whether it's discovering how to impact the life of a youth in foster care or sharing these brave stories with others, the power to make a difference lies in your hands.
