In the complex world of foster care, where children often face overwhelming challenges, the transformative role of a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) can be life-changing. During the holiday season, we hope you will consider a generous gift to help vulnerable children living in foster care 👉https://buff.ly/3VhUEAw just like Mara!

After being removed from their family home, 16-year-old Mara met her CASA, Elena. Through dedicated advocacy and unwavering support, CASA Elena fostered a sense of trust, enabling Mara to dream bigger and strive for academic success. With CASA Elena by her side, Mara gained the self-confidence to know that she was more than capable of attending a four-year university. CASA Elena arranged and attended college campus tours with Mara and helped her explore career paths. Once Mara decided on her targeted universities, CASA Elena helped her fill out applications and apply for student aid and followed up with school and county personnel to ensure Mara’s success.

Mara's top school of choice contacted her on March 1 with an email that said, “Congratulations! You have been admitted to the University of California.” The first person Mara called was her CASA, Elena. Mara graduated in the spring, and CASA Elena cheered her on in the crowd during her graduation ceremony.

Mara then faced several hurdles in securing her enrollment and housing. Still, Mara was not deterred as CASA Elena supported her and advocated for her to get the financial assistance she needed through scholarships for youth in foster care. Mara started college this fall and is reaching her full academic potential all because one caring adult, CASA Elena, stepped up and spoke up for her.
