A child and CASA don’t always form an instant bond. But that’s the special thing about CASAs: they keep showing up, no matter what. When CASA Brad was first assigned to 9-year-old “Leo’s” case, he had a tough time connecting with the boy, which only became more difficult after COVID-19 restrictions went into place. However, CASA Brad persisted, and soon, the two were bonding over virtual games of Connect 4. With each passing visit, Leo became more open and trusting.

Leo has had an especially hard year. His mother didn’t visit him for the entire year, and her parental rights were recently terminated. CASA Brad has been there for Leo as he grieves this loss and made it clear to Leo that he will always be there for him.

CASA Brad continues to support Leo in every possible way. Since restrictions were lifted, Brad has been visiting twice a month, always bringing along Leo’s favorite meals and snacks. As Leo’s educational rights holder, Brad monitors his academic progress and ensures Leo has all the resources he needs to succeed at school. Recently, Brad learned that Leo had never been to the zoo. He obtained tickets through Voices for Children, and the pair had an amazing experience that they’ll always remember.

Thanks to CASA Brad’s consistent and caring support, 9-year-old Leo feels happy, safe, and hopeful for the future.
