National Volunteer Week is a time set aside to recognize those who so generously give of themselves to our community. We would like to celebrate the 1,500 CASA volunteers who are currently serving children in San Diego and Riverside Counties, and to honor volunteers who have served in the past. Among the thousands of success stories, we would like to share the story of ‘Eva.’

Eight-year-old Eva was born with a fetal alcohol-related disorder due to her mother's alcohol abuse during pregnancy. Unfortunately, the disorder is not recognized by many institutions as a reason for providing children with additional resources to succeed. Eva is very smart, but her disorder causes her to act out and severely stunted her reading skills. But Eva's story doesn't end there. CASA Joann took on the case and has been a fierce advocate for Eva. Joann agreed to hold her educational rights and has attended countless school meetings on her behalf. Despite many roadblocks, Joann was able to secure an individualized education program (IEP) for Eva that provides counseling and tutoring. Thanks to her CASA, Eva is now on the road to a better education, and we hope she will find a forever home soon!

Please join us in recognizing the incredible dedication of CASAs this National Volunteer Week. Make a gift today to help us recruit, train, and support CASA volunteers in San Diego and Riverside Counties.
