Rafael Devers is an MLB player who plays 1st base, 3rd base, and is a designated hitter for the San Francisco Giants. He played for the Boston Red Sox for the majority of his career, before being traded last season due to Alex Bregman taking over third base duties. However, Alex Bregman signed with the Chicago Cubs this year, leaving a gap at 3rd base for the Red Sox, among their numerous other issues they are currently facing in this 2026 MLB Season.

Anyways, Devers used to be one of the best players in the major leagues, hitting at a high average and accumulating many home runs, hits, and RBIs, partially due to his high velocity bat speed. However, the SF Giants are one of the worst teams in baseball so far this year, and Rafael Devers hasn’t been helping them out with that very much. 

As you can see from this graphic, he has been declining over the past few seasons. He has gained some weight over the past few years, and this has a direct negative correlation with his bat speed. In 2023, he weighed 225 pounds and swung the bat at a speed of 73.4 miles per hour. In 2026, he now weighs 245 lbs and swings the bat at 71.2 mph. Making fun of someone’s body or appearance is never okay in my opinion, but this post makes a joke about how if he lost some weight, he would likely become one of the best MLB baseball players again.
