As I look back on the last four years with the Big Ten Network StudentU program at the University of Michigan, the first word that comes to mind is gratitude. Grateful for the opportunity. Grateful for the people I’ve met along the way. And grateful for the countless experiences that have shaped both who I am and where I’m headed.

StudentU is truly one of a kind. Being entirely student-run creates an environment where you’re not just learning, you’re doing. You’re given the space to grow, to make mistakes, and to figure out where you fit within the world of broadcast production, all while producing live events for one of the premier athletic departments in the country.

When I joined the crew in November of my freshman year, I didn’t fully know what to expect. I knew I wanted to work in sports, but I wasn’t sure in what capacity. StudentU changed that. What started as operating a camera quickly turned into exploring the control room, and eventually stepping into leadership roles as an Associate Producer and Executive Producer. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work across nearly every position on a broadcast, developing both technical skills and a deeper understanding of what it takes to bring a live production to life. More importantly, StudentU taught me how to lead. Managing live broadcasts, troubleshooting under pressure, and working alongside an incredibly talented group of students has prepared me in ways I couldn’t have imagined four years ago.

I want to give a special thank you to Brandon Malin and Megan Harmeling for believing in me early on and taking a chance on someone with no prior experience. Thank you for your mentorship, your leadership, and for building a culture that empowers students to succeed. Your impact goes far beyond the broadcasts themselves. Additionally, I'd like to thank Rob Coons, Kevin Kantorski, Lauren Day, and the rest of the crew in Chicago and Los Angeles for being so supportive of our program and the students within.

To everyone I’ve had the chance to work with, thank you. And to StudentU, thank you for an experience that has truly been life-changing. I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I’ll carry everything I’ve learned here with me moving forward. | 35 comments on LinkedIn
