(If you don’t want read all my blather, the tl:dr is I went to the fair and took pictures 🤷🏻‍♂️😂)

I’m so grateful for my life as a photographer and while specializing in sports is a dream come true, I do get “creatively restless” and am always seeking to get better at seeing.

With that in mind, I headed to the Washington State Fair with my Nikon Z6III and Z 24-120mm f/4 lens. 

I didn’t have a goal in mind (except for eating scones, corndogs, elephant ears…well you get the point) except to, in basketball parlance, “get some shots up”. Translated, basketball players head to the gym just to shoot, work on fundamentals and skills. My goal was to do that metaphorically with my camera.

Once inside, I got transfixed by this ride called the “Wave Swinger”. The first frame took me about 20 minutes of standing in the same place, near a vendor selling bubble toys. Took a while for the bubbles to blow *just right* while the ride was in action, and I was also working with the setting sun and the composition of people walking by. Came back later when it was dark, stared at the ride some more, and decided to weird and try some panning shots.
