Despite living in California for nearly my entire life, up until this past weekend, I had never been to Mexico. When friends invited me on a trip to Valle De Guadalupe to celebrate a milestone birthday, I was in. 

We learned that there are over 180 tasting rooms and the first commercial winery opened in the late 19th century, only about 50 years after Buena Vista in Sonoma. We were introduced to Nebbiolo, which is a real treat for fans of red wine. As in California, the main challenge is water and droughts, so there are concerted sustainability efforts to ensure its longevity. 

Alongside the amazing wine, there is a thriving food scene that takes advantage of locally-grown produce and seafood from the coast just a few miles away. Tying all these experiences together were the amazing people who hosted and welcomed us into their community.
