Graduating Senior Spotlight ⚽🧠🎓

Drawn to Trinity by its nationally competitive men’s soccer program, Luke Chandler ’26, a neuroscience major and chemistry minor from Glasgow, Scotland, discovered a place where his passion for athletics and interest in the human brain could grow side by side.

Even before arriving on campus, Luke knew he wanted to study neuroscience, fascinated by the complexity of the brain. At Trinity, that curiosity deepened—particularly in understanding the mechanisms behind Alzheimer’s disease, a field he hopes to continue exploring through research after graduation.

Luke credits much of his growth to his experience as a student-athlete. From missing the NCAA tournament his first year to competing in—and scoring in— the NCAA national championship game as a senior, his journey with Trinity soccer reflects resilience and determination.

Off the field, his work in engineering science professor Dany Munoz-Pinto’s lab studying ferroptosis in human astrocytes and neural stem cells has been equally transformative, helping him build a strong foundation in research.

While he briefly explored the pre-med path, Luke ultimately returned to his original goal of pursuing research, refining his focus and strengthening his academic direction along the way.

After graduation, Luke will attend University College London to pursue a master’s degree in neuroscience. He credits Trinity’s rigorous academics, competitive athletics, and hands-on research opportunities with preparing him for this next step.

His advice to future Tigers: “Take advantage of every opportunity—especially those outside your comfort zone. Some of the most meaningful growth happens through challenge.”

He also notes that San Antonio’s sunshine and food were a welcome change from Scotland’s gray skies, making his experience all the more memorable. ☀️
