Released in 1997, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery features Mike Myers pulling double duty as the titular groovy secret agent and his nemesis, Dr. Evil, with Elizabeth Hurley starring as Vanessa Kensington and Michael York as Basil Exposition. The plot follows a 1960s British spy who gets cryogenically frozen and thawed out in the 90s to stop Dr. Evil from unleashing nuclear terror after he also wakes up from a long slumber. It’s an absurd spoof of spy thrillers that uses heavy slapstick and sexual innuendos to mock the massive culture shock of moving from the swinging sixties to the nineties.
