89 years ago today, on May 6th, 1937, the Hindenburg disaster occurred as the airship burst into flames while attempting to land.

During development of Ghostbusters II, the production team contemplated several moments for the film’s “Flip City” montage, which sees New York City overrun with ghosts. One early concept included the Hindenburg, complete with flaming passengers disembarking.

Ultimately, the idea was scrapped in favor of the film’s now-iconic “better late than never” arrival of the RMS Titanic, though this piece of concept art offers a haunting glimpse at what could have been.
