Adventure is calling for these curious climbers 🦧

Have you visited the Orangutans of Gunung Leuser – Guardians of the Rainforest outdoor habitat as yet?

Having opened in 2023, this new, world-class outdoor habitat was built to stimulate the orangutans' physical, social, and intellectual needs. Since then, the seven Sumatran orangutan ambassadors that call your Toronto Zoo home have been slowly introduced to this new 13,000sq ft space - each at their own pace and comfort level 🌳

Settling in (and weather permitting), they have been able to climb up to 75 feet in the air and feel the breeze as they look out over the treetops of the Rouge Valley! So be sure to look up during your next visit 👀

Integrated into the new space is also a research station where animal behavioural scientists can study these majestic tree dwellers, known also as, "Guardians of the Rainforest". 

Members and guests can take advantage of a new play area for families, located along the pathway to the Treehouse, and learn more about how they can help this critically endangered species by shopping smart and getting educated about sustainable palm oil.

Sadly, oil palm plantations, logging, mining, and infrastructure development are all contributing to the destruction of orangutans' rainforest homes and we’re committed to bringing awareness to this.
