Here's what you missed in Alabama news: April 25th - May 1st

Pickleball might be America’s fastest‑growing sport but in Alabama, the noise is starting to drive people a little crazy. In Mobile, the City Council just approved nearly $30,000 to add sound‑blocking panels after residents said the repetitive popping was affecting their health.

A Fairhope judge cleared Renea Gamble who was arrested last fall for wearing a giant inflatable penis costume at a “No Kings” protest. The case went viral, sparking free speech and law enforcement debates. Gamble is now seeking $2 million in damages from the city. The body cam footage of the arrest can be found on our channel here.

Birmingham is still sorting out new rules for data centers. City leaders hit pause on a vote so they can tweak the proposed regulations before finalizing a decision in June. The draft rules would require things like big buffers from neighborhoods, limits on noise and lighting, closed‑loop water cooling, and restrictions on on‑site power generators.

Seventeen locations from one of Birmingham's Pihakis Restaurant Group just shut their doors. The reason? PRG is dealing with some serious financial trouble. They're facing lawsuits totaling more than $1 million for unpaid bills, supplier disputes and liens.PRG says they've brought in consultants and are "carefully evaluating" their remaining locations.

In an update, Luca Lagotto and Little Donkey are breaking away from PRG and moving forward under new ownership. Chefs Rita Bernhardt and Joshua Gentry are stepping in to keep both spots open after some tweaks including Luca Lagotto getting renamed to Salice.
