From mountain trails to quiet shrines, this past Friday we traveled north to Kurama-dera temple and Kifune shrine on a CIEE led excursion! ⛰️🌿 
 
Starting at Kurama Station, the students made their way to Kurama Temple, where they enjoyed packed lunches near the temple grounds before continuing on their hike through the forest. The trail from Kurama to Kifune offers scenic views and a peaceful escape into nature before arriving at Kifune Shrine. 
 
Kifune Shrine, which dates back over 1,600 years and is dedicated to the god of water, has long been a place where people come to pray for rain and good fortune. 
 
After many steps, students even spotted wild deer along the way, a reminder of how closely nature and daily life exist side by side in Japan, just outside central Kyoto. 🦌✨
