Foster Care Awareness Month will always hit different for me…because it’s not just something I advocate for, it’s something that changed our entire life. We met Princeton ”Boosie Lou” when he was just 3 days old in the NICU. Three days. Still so tiny. Still fighting. Still brand new to this world. And I remember walking in not knowing what to expect…but somehow, deep down, feeling like God had already written a story we hadn’t even read yet. What was supposed to be temporary…what was supposed to be “just fostering”…turned into forever.

There’s something about holding a baby that small, that vulnerable, and realizing that love doesn’t wait on biology. It doesn’t ask for permission. It just shows up. Fully. Deeply. Unconditionally. Boosie didn’t grow under my heart…but he grew in it. And that love? It’s just as real, just as fierce, just as unbreakable. So when people ask, “why did you adopt a white child” truth is…we didn’t walk into foster care with a checklist for race. We walked in with a heart that was open. When we met Boosie, he wasn’t “a white baby.” He was a 3 day old infant in the NICU who needed love, stability, and someone to show up for him. That’s what we saw. That’s what we responded to. Love doesn’t pause to calculate skin color. It doesn’t say, “wait, this doesn’t match.” It simply says, “this is my child.” So it was that simple! 

Foster care is often seen through the lens of loss and yes, there’s so much of that. But there’s also beauty. Redemption. Second chances. Unexpected forever families. This month, I don’t just celebrate awareness… I celebrate him.The little boy who came into our lives at 3 days old and made me a mother in a whole new way.

And if I could say anything to someone considering fostering…it would be this:

You may think you’re changing a child’s life…but don’t be surprised when they completely change yours🥹❤️
