In her iconic spider sculptures, Louise Bourgeois transforms a creature often feared into a powerful symbol of motherhood 🕸️✨

The artist was drawn to spiders in part because it reminded her of her mother, a master weaver who restored antique tapestries. Bourgeois saw spiders as clever and hardworking: “If you bash into the web of a spider,” Bourgeois observed, “she doesn’t get mad. She weaves and repairs it.”

Motherhood can also often look like this, the unseen work of steady care and strength 🕷️
