LIONS SWEEP PAST EAGLES: The jserra.baseball team closed out the regular season with a 9-6 victory over the Santa Margarita Eagles in a Trinity League clash on Friday at JSerra Catholic High School.

JSerra jumped out into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Senior Blake Bowen started the scoring, when he blasted a solo home run to left field, his team-high ninth of the season and his third straight game with a homerun.

After a single by junior Shane D’Arcy and a double by senior Brise Boop, freshman Joey Koenig capped the rally with a two-run single to right field.

The Lions added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Koenig drove in a run with a fielder’s choice out and D’Arcy scored on failed pick-off attempt to give the Lions a 5-0 lead.

D’Arcy added a two-run double to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase the Lions’ lead to 7-0.

The Eagles tallied a run in the top of the fifth inning.

JSerra loaded the bases in the fifth inning on three hit-by-pitches, before junior Zac Veronda drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single to right field by sophomore Owen Mescall pushed the Lions’ advantage to 9-1.

Santa Margarita narrowed the deficit with a five-run sixth inning, but JSerra finished out the win to complete the sweep and win its’ season-high fourth straight game.
