“We do not doubt our mothers knew it.”

In the Book of Mormon we read of 2,000 young men who “entered into a covenant to fight for the liberty of the Nephites… even unto the laying down of their lives.”

They were led by Helaman, who loved them so deeply he called them his sons.

They were “exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity,” and “true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.”

They were “men of truth and soberness,” taught “to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him.”

“They did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives”… and they fought “with miraculous strength.”

“They did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness.”

“They were young… and they did put their trust in God continually.”

Though they received “many wounds,” they “stood fast in that liberty wherewith God had made them free,” remembering Him “from day to day.”

Through “the strength of the Lord,” they helped save an entire people from destruction.

Where did this kind of faith come from?

Their fathers taught them by covenant and sacrifice—choosing death rather than breaking their word to God.

But Helaman reveals how this faith got planted in their hearts

“They had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them.”

And they declared:

“We do not doubt our mothers knew it” (Alma 56:48).

This Mother’s Day, we honor faithful mothers everywhere — women who do their best to teach the rising generation, by word and example, to put their trust in God.

Even when you cannot yet see the fruits of your faith and sacrifice, your righteous influence is not lost.

God sees every prayer, every act of love, every lesson taught, and every example given.

Like the mothers of the stripling warriors, your faith is shaping souls in ways only heaven can fully measure.

And God knows you. He loves you. And He honors your efforts.
