I grew up in a hippy commune and I feel like I’m watching a collective shift in broader society:
The death of hyper-individualism is a remembering.

For years we’ve been sold this idea that success is something you build alone. Hustle harder. Do more. Need less. Be self-sufficient to the point of isolation. And then you get the job, the car, the life you thought would feel like arrival… and something still feels quietly empty.

Maybe you still feel empty because in every historical human culture known to anthropology, people sang together, danced together, and ate food together, you don’t sing and you don’t dance and you eat alone in the dark in front of a television.

That’s not a personal failure. It’s a cultural one.
You weren’t meant to carry everything on your own and call it strength.

Now we’re slowly unlearning it.

We’re realising that being held, supported, witnessed… isn’t weakness, it’s regulation. It’s health. It’s human.

But here’s the part people don’t always want to hear:
You don’t find a village by waiting for one to appear. You become a villager.

That means showing up.
Not just when it benefits you.
Not just when it’s convenient.
Not just when there’s something to gain.
Generosity that comes with the expectation of repayment is still rooted in scarcity and survival.

Sometimes you give because that’s what keeps the fabric intact.
Sometimes you show up because that’s what community requires.
Not everything is a transaction. Not everything is an exchange.

We don’t rebuild connection by consuming it.
We rebuild it by participating in it.

And maybe the fullness you’re craving isn’t in the next achievement…
it’s in the spaces where you’re seen, known, and part of something that exists beyond you.
