Metra trains on the Union Pacific North line were halted Thursday afternoon after a train struck a flatbed trailer carrying milling equipment in a north suburb, with officials warning "extensive" delays were expected.

Around 2:46 p.m., UP-N train #337, scheduled to arrive at Kenosha at 3:45 p.m., was stopped after striking the flatbed truck at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Linden Avenue near the Wilmette station, authorities said.

Two passengers on the train sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital, authorities said.

Ben Pogvara, a passenger in a car toward the front of the train, said he felt a "hard brake" before a "hard jolt" when the train struck the truck's trailer.

"Hopefully the engineer is okay because I imagine he was the only one who was in the impact area," Pogvara said. The front end of the train was visibly damaged after the crash.
