UPDATE: Shoppers and employees of a northwest suburban Costco were evacuated on Monday afternoon following a bomb threat, authorities said.

In a post on X, the Lake in the Hills Police Department said at around 3:30 p.m. it responded to a call about a person claiming to bring a pipe bomb into the store along Randall Road.

Police said the building was immediately evacuated, and the area was secured.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office bomb squad and explosives detection canine responded to the scene. As of around 5:30 p.m., a search of the property was underway. No injuries were reported.

Police asked residents to "please stay clear of this area until further notice."
