Phoenix just ranked as one of the most polluted major cities in the country again in 2026… with the Valley reportedly averaging nearly 60 unhealthy ozone days per year.

The American Lung Association ranked the Phoenix-Mesa area:

4th worst in the U.S. for ozone pollution
17th worst for short-term particle pollution
15th worst for year-round particle pollution

Officials say the combination of extreme heat, nonstop traffic, construction dust, wildfire smoke, and rapid growth is making the Valley’s air quality worse year after year.

Maricopa County even issued multiple High Pollution Advisories recently warning residents that pollution levels could become unhealthy — especially for kids, older adults, and people with asthma.

A lot of people say they can actually SEE the haze sitting over Phoenix now… especially during the summer.
