A heated sidewalk dispute between two members of the Bangladeshi community in New York City has gone viral after a curse-filled shouting match was caught on video in Jackson Heights, Queens.

The incident took place near 37th Avenue and 73rd Street, an area densely populated by the Bangladeshi diaspora and home to numerous immigrant-owned street businesses. The scene involved a Bangladeshi street vendor — who regularly sells juice, drinks, traditional snacks, coconuts, and other community staples — and a local Bangladeshi woman who complained about the vendor’s expanding sidewalk display.

According to witnesses, the vendor had recently begun selling seasonal plants and flower seedlings along the sidewalk in addition to his usual merchandise. The local woman raised concerns that the growing display was blocking pedestrian access and making it difficult for people to pass safely through the busy walkway.

Frustrated by the situation, the woman contacted the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) to file a complaint. Once sanitation crews arrived at the scene, tensions boiled over. Video from the location shows a curse-filled shouting match erupting between the vendor and the woman directly in front of DSNY workers, with both sides exchanging heated words in Bengali and English.

The footage later shows sanitation workers removing all the plants from the sidewalk area, effectively shutting down that portion of the vendor’s display.
