“Yo Siempre Contesto” is a beautiful song about communication in a relationship, especially when it’s ready to fade away…

Why do we have to ask someone to fight for something we’re supposed to protect together? And why sometimes is only one person fighting?

“I always respond” feels like the voice of someone who’s still willing to try, even when the relationship is fading away. Even when you’re the only one holding it on.

Just like us, relationships can die. But they can also come back in a new form:

“Si me muero
Ven a buscarme
Tan pronto tengas otro cuerpo
Y otra forma de mirarme”

If it dies one day, come find me again, with new eyes, but the same love we once had.

There’s also a line about how “we forget how to walk.” In a relationship, you walk together. But sometimes we forget that… and when no one moves, everything falls apart.

A few months back I asked Urban for Spanish music recommendations, and he told me that I had to listen to Latin Mafia’s album ‘TODOS LOS DÍAS TODO EL DÍA.’ What I didn’t expect was that ‘Yo siempre contesto’ would leave such an impact on me despite not understanding most of the words.

I assumed it meant ‘I always fight,’ and otherwise I just would get lost in the emotions of the production. It was the first time that I have ever felt so much from a song in a different language, and it honestly seemed to me as if I understood the track despite it not being in my native language.

Recently though Urban broke down the meaning above to me, and it all started to come together. Latin Mafia sings this song almost carefully, and knowing now that YSC highlights the experience of not trying to lose the one you love, the music has started to connect with me in an entirely different way.

There are certain parts of Spanish music that I may never be able to translate, but I’ll always be able to feel the emotion even if it means something slightly different to me. What a beautiful thing.
