“We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped!” -Psalm 124:7

Life has invisible snares. They are not always obvious, not always immediate, but real all the same. Whether drawn by desire, fear, or habit, we wander into what we cannot break. What seems small becomes binding, what seems harmless holds fast. On our own, we cannot escape; we don’t even recognize the danger until we are already trapped.

But the LORD does not abandon His people in the trap. He doesn’t watch on as we struggle in what binds us. While we cannot free ourselves, He can, and He does act. The snare is not just loosened, or made easier, it is broken. Not by our doing, not by our strength or effort, but by His hand alone.

And we are escaped! Our soul is escaped! Let it be said again and again! What joy there is in this, to be freed from what we could not break. Like a bird released, we rise and we sing, and we rise and sing again. Not by our strength, but by His mercy. Not by our doing, but by His grace.

Now that we have been freed, do not linger at the snare. Do not circle back to what has once trapped us. Rise up, move, flee and leave behind what would have kept us bound and in line for death. The trap was real. The danger was real. But the escape is real and the deliverance is entirely through Jesus.

Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us over, but has set us free.
