Behind the pretty pictures of a luxurious powder room , a richly toned home office and a light and airy entrance corridor were months of planning. 
When we first visited the property with our client as she was in the process of purchasing the property, one of the first things that struck me was the opportunity the entrance area of the house offered. At the time it was a strange unloved open plan area where there was no proper place for anything. So, personal belongings were neatly piled in multiple places, but the space had no actual function. The difficulty was the wedge shape of the house. Which made conventional layout’s unworkable. Our first design idea was to add a gentle curve to one wall that would lead you from the front door through to the back of the house with views all the way through to the garden. Off this we would locate a generous WC and home office / study hidden behind a sweep of curved wall. 
In practice as the project evolved, the priority emerged that extra storage was needed and a smalker powder room and study would be fine to achieve this. So we tweaked the plan to create a generous bank of floor to ceiling cupboards deep enough to house a cloakroom, space for luggage, winter coats and anything else needed. The powder room and study were kept luxurious with high quality and beautiful materials and details and I think the decision made was the right one - modern family life always needs more storage and it can still be beautiful
