On May 20-21, the clevelandasianfestival returns to the land for a celebration of food, arts and culture in AsiaTown. ✨

Ahead of the celebration, Cleveland Magazine caught up with filmmaker mdifilm to discuss the rich history of Clevelands Chinese and Asian community and the importance of the festival.

According to Wu's recent documentary, Chinese folk have been present and active in the Cleveland area for around 150 years. In "The History of Cleveland’s Chinatown — An Oral History of Chinese Americans in Cleveland," he and his crew shine a light on that culture and what it grew into over generations.

"We have something good in Cleveland," Wu says "And we realize all this should be documented because it shows how Cleveland was embracing the diversity we have here."
