Released in 1988, Bloodsport follows Frank Dux, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, as he AWOLs from the Army to honor his dying master’s legacy by competing in the Kumite, an underground, full-contact martial arts tournament in Hong Kong. Along the way, Dux befriends the boisterous American fighter Ray Jackson (Donald Gibb) and catches the eye of investigative reporter Janice Kent (Leah Ayres) while evading military officers sent to bring him home. The film reaches its climax when Dux must use his superior discipline to overcome the brutal defending champion, Chong Li (Bolo Yeung), in a final, high-stakes battle for honor.
