Today, we pause to remember Victory in Europe Day — VE Day.

On 8 May 1945, the Allied forces formally accepted Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender, bringing the war in Europe to an end after years of sacrifice, courage, and unimaginable loss. 

The surrender had first been signed on 7 May in Reims, France, followed by the definitive signing in Berlin on 8 May, taking effect late that evening in Central Europe.

VE Day is more than a date in history. It is a reminder of the cost of freedom, the strength of unity, and the duty we carry to honour those who served, those who endured, and those who never came home.

As we mark this day, we remember the generation that stood against tyranny and helped shape the peace we live in today.

Lest we forget.
