What is "Q-Day", and why is Google's latest announcement such a massive deal?

SCSP's Damien Bérubé breaks down the complex world of quantum computing using a simple analogy: finding water.

While conventional computers search sequentially (like digging one well at a time), quantum computers mimic nature. They act like a tree, spreading roots in every direction to search all spaces simultaneously.

Google's latest white paper just revealed that it will take far fewer of these quantum "roots" (qubits) to break modern encryption and cryptocurrency wallets than previously estimated, dramatically accelerating the timeline to Q-Day.
