Everyone loves magic, but what about its cost? What’s a unique drawback in a magic system that you found especially interesting? Let us know! 🔮

While magic can be mesmerising and vast, with protagonists bargaining for it, stealing it, or being born with it, we’ve always found the cost of magic the most fascinating part. A kingdom might be saved by a magic-wielding hero, but what happens to them in the process? What do they have to sacrifice for that kind of power? 💫

In The Last Starborn Seer by Venetia Constantine, Leilani is cursed with a volatile form of Starborn magic that grants her invasive, destructive, and powerful visions of the future. Her magic was utterly magnificent, but hauntingly devastating too. Every prophecy chips away at her, warping and corrupting her mind, leaving her burdened by the very power she possesses. We couldn’t get enough of her story, and we may have shed a few tears watching her fight so desperately to save both herself and her world. 🌷
