Meet Prachi Patel, a doctor of pharmacy graduate from Norton, Massachusetts, and this year’s student commencement speaker for the College of Pharmacy.

Prachi chose pharmacy for its blend of science and patient care. After watching her late father manage diabetes, she saw firsthand how meaningful, informed care can shape a patient’s daily life, inspiring her to pursue a path where she could make a difference for others.

At URI, Prachi was actively involved across both her undergraduate and professional years. She participated in URIDanceCompany, PINKWomenURI, and worked as a STEM tutor, later joining organizations like the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, Diversity Representation in Pharmacy, and Phi Lambda Sigma. She also served as a resident assistant for three years.

Prachi is most proud of being part of the first URI team to advance to the semifinal round of the AMCP P&T Competition. The experience challenged her to think critically and collaborate under pressure, making it especially meaningful to represent URI at that level.

“I’ve learned at URI that growth doesn’t come from staying comfortable,” Prachi says. “It shaped me into someone who is not only prepared for a career in pharmacy, but also committed to continuously improving and contributing to something larger than myself.”

After graduation, Prachi will begin a residency at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. She hopes to pursue a career as an ambulatory care pharmacist, carrying forward the resilience, adaptability, and sense of community she built at URI.
