It’s here—the beginning of Lent. The season that slowly leads us toward Easter.

For grown-ups, Ash Wednesday might feel heavy. Somber. A reminder of our limits, our need, our mortality. But for kids? It can be as simple as this:

💨 We are made from dust, and one day, we’ll return to dust.
💛 And in between? God is with us, every single day.

That’s it. That’s Ash Wednesday.

If your kids see people with ashes on their foreheads today, they might have questions. You can tell them the ashes are a sign—like a heart drawn on a note or a stop sign at the corner. They remind us that we belong to God, that we are loved, and that Jesus walks with us all the way to the cross.

Some simple ways to mark today together:

🖍 Draw a little cross on each other’s hands with a marker and say, “God loves you, always.”
🕯 Sit in the quiet for a minute, just to remember.
💬 Ask, “What do you wonder about Jesus?” and just listen.
