The mother of Buldak ramen (buldak_global) just became the chairwoman of Samyang Foods (samyangfoods_global)🔥

Kim Jungsoo originally lived as a full-time housewife after marrying into the Samyang family, but joined the company in the late 1990s when the ramen company was struggling financially.

Later, she led the development of Buldak ramen and helped transform the company into an export-focused global business 🌶️

She once shared that the idea came after visiting a spicy fried rice restaurant and noticing people kept saying “it’s so spicy” while still continuing to eat it 👀 And funny enough… even she couldn’t properly eat the first prototype because it was TOO spicy 😭

But her instincts were right. Now Buldak has become one of the world’s most iconic ramens, loved by everyone from BTS to BLACKPINK and even global pop stars.

In Korea’s chaebol families, men usually lead the business while daughters-in-law stay behind the scenes, which is why so many people are paying attention to her story even more now.

김정수 회장은 원래 삼양가에 시집간 뒤 전업주부로 살아왔지만, 회사가 어려움을 겪던 1990년대 후반 삼양식품에 합류하게 됐는데요. 이후 불닭볶음면 개발을 주도하고 회사를 수출 중심의 글로벌 기업으로 성장시키는 데 큰 역할을 했습니다 🌶️

예전 인터뷰에서는 매운 볶음밥집에 갔다가 사람들이 “맵다 맵다” 하면서도 계속 먹는 모습을 보고 아이디어를 떠올렸다고 밝혔죠 👀 그리고 재밌는 건… 첫 시제품은 그녀조차 너무 매워서 제대로 먹지 못했다고 합니다 😭

하지만 그녀의 감은 정확했고, 이제 불닭은 BTS부터 블랙핑크, 해외 팝스타들까지 즐기는 세계적인 라면이 됐습니다.
