⭐ The Tradition: With origins dating back to 12th-13th century, the symbolic hooding ceremony honors the significant achievement of those earning an advanced degree. 
⭐ The Hood: Robes became less practical and more symbolic, with the hood - a unique symbol of advanced scholarship, its length, velvet trim color, and lining colors communicate the graduate's specific degree, field, and university - becoming a detachable ornament, representing a scholar's commitment to learning. 
⭐ The Act: Presenters place the hood over the graduate's head, symbolizing their transition to a higher level of academic mastery and their entry into a scholarly profession. 👩‍🎓👨🏾‍🎓👩🏾‍🎓
