Paul Skenes interview: 14:30 - 14:40

Look, we all know the story. The Pirates haven't sniffed the playoffs since 2015. A decade of rebuilds, fire sales, and "wait til next year" energy. Losing season after losing season at PNC Park, Buccos fans have been put through it. But something feels DIFFERENT in 2026.

Paul Skenes is no longer "the next big thing" — he IS the thing. A bonafide ace anchoring one of the nastiest young rotations in baseball. He’s probably the best pitcher on the planet ⚡ Oneil Cruz is stealing bases, launching baseballs into orbit, and turning into the superstar everyone saw coming 💎 Jared Jones, Bubba Chandler, Braxton Ashcraft, Mitch Keller, and the rest of this pitching staff are giving Pittsburgh something they haven't had in YEARS — legit October-caliber arms!! The farm system is FINALLY producing, and the young core is hitting its stride at the same time.

We're breaking down why this might be the year the Jolly Roger flies again, the recent history that got us here, and what to expect the rest of the season. We also had the guys guess the value of the Honus Wagner T206 Baseball Card, the rarest sports card in the world.

The Honus Wagner T206 is widely considered the holy grail of sports cards — often called "The Mona Lisa of baseball cards."

It was produced between 1909 and 1911 by the American Tobacco Company as part of the T206 set, a series distributed in packs of cigarettes. The card features Honus Wagner, the legendary Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop and one of the original five players inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. Wagner was a career .328 hitter, won eight batting titles, and is still regarded as the greatest shortstop of the deadball era.

What makes the card so rare is that production was halted almost immediately. The most popular explanation is that Wagner objected to his image being used to sell tobacco products to children and demanded the card be pulled. A competing theory suggests he simply hadn't been properly compensated. Either way, fewer than 60 authenticated copies are believed to exist today, and most are in poor condition.

That scarcity, combined with Wagner's stature in the game, has made the card the most valuable trading card on the planet. A pristine PSA 5 example famously owned at one point by Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall helped launch the card's mythos in the late 1980s when it sold for $451,000. Prices have climbed astronomically since — a Wagner T206 sold for $7.25 million in 2022, setting a then-record for any trading card.
Beyond the price tag, the card represents the birth of sports card collecting as a serious hobby. It's a piece of Americana that connects the deadball era to modern card culture, and it remains the ultimate white whale for collectors. Even lower-grade, well-worn copies routinely fetch six and seven figures at auction.
