Governor Henry McMaster called for a special session to be held so lawmakers can discuss redistricting in South Carolina.

The governor had been under pressure for weeks to call a special session for lawmakers to redraw the state's congressional map.

According to McMaster's office, he issued Executive Order 2026-09 to reconvene the General Assembly for an extra legislative session to "take up the General Appropriations Act, continue consideration of South Carolina’s congressional districts, and address other matters of public importance."
