National Little Free Library Day!

Today is the inaugural National Little Free Library Day and the first day of Little Free Library Week!

We are such big fans of littlefreelibrary over here (the non-profit inspiring readers all over including in “book deserts”).

We love to give a book and take a book.

Four years ago in 2022 my daughter built a Little Free Library from scratch (power tools and all!) and donated it to our town park to earn her Girl Scout Silver Award.

We picked a nice shady installation spot with the town, right outside of a playground so parents could take a break during their play dates and read a book to their kids.

Also, since our town park services everyone in our community, it’s the perfect location to grab a book after playing tennis, pickleball, basketball, baseball, softball, or while you’re sitting by the pool over the summer.

Since we’re there all the time it is a constant source of pride for me and a reminder of how my sweet little four-eyed brace face (now a beautiful teenager) felt so accomplished doing it all by herself.

Since the girlscouts Silver Award is supposed to be self-sustaining, it’s been exciting to see all the books come and go over the years and how our community has embraced it.

While I love the public library more than anyone should love a building, my heart warms for Little Free Libraries and their fun, creative, and often quirky boxes.

You can find one of their 200k+ LFLs on private lawns, common areas in schools, agency parking lots, and more. There’s a link on LFL’s site to find your closest one.

Before our last vacation I did a little book scavenger hunt and visited a few new LFLs in my area. It was so exciting to hunt them down! I know, I’m a huge dork.

I also love working with publishers like celadonbooks who often send me a copy to read and a copy to donate.

This is not a sponsored post, no one hired me to say any of this, I’m just a girl standing in front of a Little Free Library wanting to get lost in a good story and hoping to spread the wealth.

📍Follow themintchipmama if you’re also a bookasaurus.

#LFLweek #LittleFreeLibraryDay #LittleFreeLibraryWeek #Books #Libraries
