Phoenix officials say the city has installed its first flashing stop signs at several intersections across South Phoenix in an effort to improve traffic safety and visibility for drivers.

According to Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington, the new flashing signs were installed at:

• 59th Avenue & Dobbins
• 51st Avenue & Elliot
• 51st Avenue & South Mountain

The city says the flashing lights are designed to make stop signs more noticeable, especially at night or on darker rural-style roads where drivers may miss traditional signs.

Officials called the new signs “the first of their kind in Phoenix” as the city looks for new ways to reduce dangerous crashes and improve road safety.

Honestly not a bad idea considering how many people in Phoenix blow through stop signs already 😭
