From day one, Sara knew this was the program for her. She just didn’t know how much it would change her.

When Sara walked into the College of Health Sciences as a freshman with a passion for exercise science, she couldn’t have predicted the professors, mentors, and moments that would shape the next four years of her life — or just how far that foundation would take her. A perfect 4.0 GPA, the Outstanding Senior in Exercise, Sport and Movement Sciences Award, and the honor of serving as Student Marshal for the College of Health Sciences at graduation are just a few of the milestones that marked her undergraduate journey. On top of that, through the Accelerated Bachelor-to-Master’s program, she completed 12 graduate credit hours before ever crossing the graduation stage.

But it was her experience outside the traditional classroom that she felt like truly set her up for success. As a Student Assistant under Mrs. Stephanie Chester, Sara pulled back the curtain on the administrative side of academia, learning valuable lessons in organizational communication and the working environment. As an intern under Dr. Melissa Puppa in the Human Performance Center, she got her hands on conducting real metabolic testing — the kind of work that solidifies passions. More than that though, it was the feeling that she was truly being invested in. “Every professor, instructor, and mentor in the ESMS family treating my goals like their own,” Sara says.

The best part? She’s not done yet. This fall, Sara continues her Master’s degree in ESMS right where her story began.
