Under the new austerity rulings in 2026, a few hybrid new scenarios emerged, out of creative tax evasion. Combined with the new 60% tax on destination weddings and a 20% cess on environmental upgradation projects, a whole new kind of Billionaire wedding typology emerged. 

Among weddings with budgets over Rs 1 crore, more than 60% were destination celebrations in 2025, with the average destination wedding cost rising to Rs 58 lakh — up from Rs 51.1 lakh the previous year. 

Early in 2027, The Badani Family Announced a “Carbon-Positive Nuptials” in an Abandoned Chhattisgarh Coal Mine. In a press release described by its own publicist as “historic, humble, and honestly quite spectacular,” the family announced that the forthcoming wedding of a senior family member — originally planned for a private island in the Maldives with a rumoured Taylor Swift performance that was firmly denied at least twice — will instead be held in the reclaimed Bishrampur open-cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh.

“We heard the PM,” said the statement, attributed to a family spokesperson. “We really heard him.” Of the 1,472 hectares of the Bishrampur coalfield that was closed, 319 hectares of forest land and 906 hectares of non-forest land have been reclaimed over the last decade into what the government calls “a thriving ecosystem of native plant species.” The family, according to the press release, will be funding the completion of the remaining 247 hectares as a wedding gift to the nation, with a sheesham-and-mango reforestation program that will employ 1,200 people from surrounding Surajpur district for three years.

The ceremony itself will be held at the bottom of the open pit, which will be temporarily illuminated by 4,000 solar lanterns — all Made in India. The reception will be held at the lake that now covers the old shaft — the still surface of which, as one local elder noted, “reflects nothing but darkness” on a moonless night.
